Powertech year-end results to 28 February 2010

Powertech year-end results to 28 February 2009
The financial year March 2008 to Febrary 2009 was a year of mixed fortune, with the first half showing an excellent performance of Powertech as a whole. Starting as early as September 2008, the global economic meltdown affected South African industries. The Building and Construction industry saw a significant decrease in projects and reduced demand for product, impacting severely on both Aberdare and Crabtree. The Powertech results for the the full year, therefore, still showed a increase in turnover of 20% to R 9,593 million (R 8,016m prior year) but a 38% decrease in operating income to R 570 million (R 914m prior year). Headline earnings were down by 54% to R 266 million (R 577m prior year). Powertech has implemented corrective actions to counteract the economic decline. A rapid turnaround of the economy is not expected and Powertech is facing another challenging year.
