Overview

Transformation at Powertech is guided by a unique internal charter which is applied by its parent company, Altron. Through a steady process of empowerment through training, shareholding and development of disadvantaged communities, Powertech is committed to the letter and the spirit of Broad Based Black Empowerment legislation.

While the concept of empowerment is decades-old within the group, by focusing on areas which will produce the maximum long-term benefit such as education, training, health, social welfare and job creation Altron and Powertech support a national programme which is considered a commercial and moral imperative.

Under the terms of the Altron Transformation Vision 2012 - a blueprint for achieving set targets for sustainable transformation the group intends to address:

Ownership, Board and management control, Employment equity and skills development, Preferential procurements and enterprise development, Socio-economic Development

In developing this framework, Altron and Powertech have considered national guidelines, in particular the dti Codes of Good Practice, sectoral empowerment charters and legislation. Comprehensive study has resulted in the submission of a report to the Department of Trade and Industry towards the draft Codes of Good Practice. These collective inputs will drive Powertech towards achieving sustainable growth of its business and the broader economy while distributing the proceeds across South African society.
