Taking its stance from that of its parent company Altron, Powertech is of the view that BEE is a significant and essential force for the South African economy. As such, the company endorses Altron's Vision 2010 BEE development vision. In terms of this vision, Powertech aims to meet the provisions set out by government for the accelerated development of the disadvantaged in terms of education, training, skills development, housing, health, social welfare and job creation.

To date Powertech has forged valuable relationships with a number of empowerment companies on its quest towards achieving the goals of Vision 2010 (Namely, previously disadvantaged ownership of a minimum of 25.01%, 50% representation on the Executive and Non-executive Boards and 50% affirmative procurement). These companies and their participation in Powertech are:




Izingwe Capital
Company Participation
Izingwe Capital is a BEE investment company led by Sipho Pityana, the former director general of the Departments of Labour and Foreign Affairs. The company holds a 30% share of Aberdare Cables in consortium with Matomo.
Kagiso Trust Investments
Company Participation
Kagiso Trust Investments (KTI) was formed in December 1993 by the Kagiso Trust as a vehicle to generate sustainable, long-term financial support (dividends) to Kagiso Trust for purposes of community development and to achieve true economic empowerment through active, operational involvement in underlying strategic investments. The company holds a 25.01% stake in Battery Technologies.
Mahogany Capital
Company Participation
Mahogany Capital is a Black-empowered investment consortium which also seeks to economically empower women. The company holds a 25.01% share in Powertech Calidus and is led by key principal Taurai Muranda.
Power Matla
Company Participation
Power Matla is an investment consortium under the chairmanship of Solly Moloko. The company has for many years been our partner in Desta Power Matla (DPM). DPM has been integrated into Powertech Transformers and Power Matla has increased there involvement to a 20% stake in Powertech Transformers.
